Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how scTimer (“we”, “us”, or “the Service”) handles information when you use our timer, cloud account, sync, battle, tournament, and related features. By using scTimer, you acknowledge this policy.
Local by default. You can use the core timer without creating an account. Solve data and preferences stay in your browser unless you choose a cloud, sharing, or realtime feature.
Information we handle
Timer data and preferences
The core app stores information in browser storage, including solves, sessions, statistics, scrambles, custom puzzle settings, timer settings, theme and language choices, and algorithm-learning progress or favorites. Depending on the feature and browser, this uses local storage and IndexedDB.
Cloud account and sync data
If you create or use a scTimer account, we process your email address, display name, optional avatar, account security information, and the data you elect to synchronize. Synced data can include solves, sessions, settings, algorithm data, progress, and deletion records needed to keep devices consistent.
To secure accounts and show your signed-in devices, our services may process a device identifier and label, browser and device details, a hashed device fingerprint, IP address, session tokens, and timestamps. Passwords are stored as password hashes, not readable passwords.
Realtime and shared features
When you join or create an online battle, tournament, judge panel, spectator link, or shared room, we process the information required for that activity. This can include the name you enter, room or tournament code, player and judge assignments, solve results, timing state, messages, and event settings. Other people with access to that shared activity may see this information.
Usage and technical information
We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate use of the website, such as pages viewed, browser or device category, and general engagement. We also process ordinary server and security logs, such as IP address, browser information, request time, and error or security events, to operate and protect the Service.
How we use information
- Provide the timer, statistics, scrambles, settings, and offline experience.
- Authenticate accounts, secure sessions, prevent abuse, and support connected-device controls.
- Synchronize data across devices when you enable cloud sync.
- Run battles, tournaments, spectator views, and other realtime features you choose to use.
- Improve reliability, diagnose errors, and understand aggregate product use.
- Respond to support requests and meet applicable legal obligations.
When information is shared
We do not sell personal information. We share or make information available only as needed to provide the Service:
- People in your shared activity: information you add to a battle, tournament, judge panel, spectator view, or shared link can be visible to participants or viewers with access.
- Service providers: providers that host, authenticate, deliver realtime data, analyze usage, or support Google integrations may process information on our behalf. These include Google services and Firebase where those features are used.
- Your Google Drive: if you enable Google Drive sync, selected data files are stored in your own Google Drive under permissions you authorize.
- Legal and safety reasons: where reasonably necessary to protect the Service, users, or rights, or to comply with law.
Third-party services have their own terms and privacy policies. We encourage you to review them before enabling an integration.
Your choices and controls
- Stay local: use the core timer without an account or cloud sync.
- Export or import: create a backup or move compatible timer data through the app’s data tools.
- Clear local data: use the app’s reset controls or your browser’s site-data controls. Clearing browser data can remove locally stored solves and settings.
- Manage cloud data: signed-in users can manage connected devices and account-synced information from the Cloud Account area.
- Delete an account: use the account deletion control in the Cloud Account profile. This deletes the account and associated account-sync data; copies in third-party services or shared activity may be governed by their own retention and access settings.
- Google Drive: you can disable sync and revoke scTimer’s Drive access from your Google account.
Cookies and browser storage
scTimer uses browser storage to remember your timer data and preferences. When you use an account, we use cookies and similar session mechanisms to keep the account secure and signed in. Google Analytics may set or read cookies or similar identifiers for analytics. You can control cookies and site storage through your browser, although doing so may affect sign-in, sync, or saved timer data.
Security and retention
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including protected sessions and hashed passwords. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so please use a unique password and keep your devices secure.
Local data remains on your device until you remove it. Account and sync data is retained while your account is active and as needed for operation, security, dispute resolution, and legal obligations. Shared realtime content can remain available for the lifetime of its activity or according to the relevant feature’s storage behavior.
Children
scTimer is not directed to children under 13. Do not create an account or submit personal information if you are under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can review and address the request.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as scTimer changes. The date at the top tells you when it was last updated. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
